It's been 14 years since Footballers' Wives hit our screens and had us transfixed with sex, scandal and the odd sort here and there!

Footballer Wives
WAGS United: Chardonnay (Susie Amy), Donna (Katherine Monaghan), Tanya and Jackie

How did it all begin?

The start of 2002 saw the arrival of Footballers’ Wives, a brand new ITV drama that focused on the sensational lives of the fictional Premier League club Earls Park F.C. along with the players and their glamorous wives and girlfriends.

Of course, there was some epic Cat fights too…

So where are some of the key cast members now?

Zoe Lucker – Tanya Turner

Zoe got her big acting break when she landed the part of TV’s biggest super bitch Tanya Turner earning herself an acting award along the way. After the show was axed she went on to star in Holby Blue before joining EastEnders in March 2010 as Max Branning’s girlfriend Vanessa Gold.

Zoe then starred in Waterloo Road before landing herself as a series regular in Hollyoaks, as the loud-mouthed Reenie McQueen.

But life hasn’t all been plain sailing. Last year Zoe, 42, opened up about how the fame has caused her to have anxiety problems: ‘I sound like a freak, but I worry about absolutely everything, ‘ she revealed. ‘I wouldn’t say I have agoraphobia, but I don’t like going out in the evenings now, I just like to know the family are in and safe at night.’

Gary Lucy – Kyle Pascoe

His hapless character in the show was married to glamour model Chardonnay until her tragic death from anorexia.

But Gary’s real life has been much happier. The former model went on to portray DC Will Fletcher in The Bill from 2005 to 2010, then in 2010 he tried his hand (or feet) on the fifth series of Dancing on Ice, and achieved an impressive second place with dancing partner Katie Stainsby. Two years later he was cast as Danny Pennant in BBC soap EastEnders before heading off to play the lead role of Gaz in The Full Monty. In 2014 Gary, now 34, married his wife Natasha Gray, with whom he has three children.

Gillian Taylforth – Jackie Pascoe Webb

Gillian was not so successful in the dancing department – she was the first woman to be booted off Strictly Come Dancing in 2008. In 2013, she also entered the Celebrity Big Brother house, but didn’t have much luck their, either. Fourth to be evicted, she speculated: ‘Perhaps I got on people’s nerves?’

But to Eastenders fans’ delight everywhere,  she returned to Albert Square and resumed her role as Kathy Beale in 2015, but in her personal life she hasn’t had an easy ride. When she and her partner of 25 years, Geoff Knights, split, their kids opened up about the trouble between the couple behind closed doors.  Daughter, Jessica, now 25 says: ‘Dad had got the devil in him. I have got memories of those times that I’ve tried to cancel out’. Gillian, 60, is now happily engaged to Dave Fairbairn.

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO NEIL FROM ART ATTACK?

Alison Newman – Hazel Bailey

Ruthless sports agent Hazel Bailey was Alison’s first steady TV role. Since Footballers’ Wives was cancelled in 2006 she has appeared in Doctors, Casualty, and Call the Midwife. In 2015, she found herself the target of some online abuse from the infamously outspoken rapper Azealia Banks. After Alison objected to a homophobic tweet Azaelia had posted, the singer shot back at her: ‘Botox those frown lines. Juvederm those lips. Get a tan.’ But Alison had the last laugh, literally, responding: ‘I’m 47 yrs old. I love my frown lines & my skinny lips. Most of my wrinkles are from laughing.’ You go, Alison!
